Sapporo's climate is semi-continental, experiencing freezing, snowy winters and warm, rainy summers. Summers (June-August) average around 21°C, with long days and occasional heatwaves, while winters (December-February) average around -3°C, with heavy snowfall – Sapporo is one of the snowiest cities globally. Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) offer pleasant temperatures, but precipitation can vary. Extreme weather, such as severe blizzards or typhoons, is relatively rare. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures averaging between 7°C and 17°C, making them ideal for sightseeing. There are two main airports currently operating in Auckland that serve commercial flights: Auckland Airport (AKL) and Ardmore Airport.

Auckland Airport (AKL)

Auckland Airport is the largest and busiest airport in New Zealand. It's a modern airport, opened in 1966 and has been renovated multiple times. It is an international airport, serving as the principal hub for Air New Zealand and the New Zealand operating base for Jetstar. It offers a wide range of services, multiple terminals and countless shops.

Ardmore Airport

Ardmore Airport is a smaller airport that is primarily used for general aviation. It is located closer to the city centre. The airport is significantly smaller than Auckland Airport, and the flight and airline options are more limited. It primarily focuses on domestic flights.

Sapporo has two major airports currently operational: New Chitose Airport (CTS) and Okadama Airport.

New Chitose Airport (CTS)

New Chitose Airport is the primary airport serving Sapporo, and also the main airport of the entire island of Hokkaido. It's a modern, large airport with many shops, restaurants and services. From the airport, you can reach the city center using public transport such as trains, buses and taxis. The JR Rapid Airport train offers a convenient and frequent connection to Sapporo Station, the city's main transportation hub. Taxis are readily available at the airport, providing direct transportation to various destinations in Sapporo. Car rental services are also available at the airport.

Okadama Airport

Okadama Airport is a smaller airport, mainly used for domestic flights. It's located closer to the city centre than New Chitose Airport. It's a smaller airport with fewer facilities than New Chitose Airport. Access to the city centre is easier from Okadama Airport, with numerous bus lines and taxis readily available. Car rentals are also an option.
