London has six major airports currently operating and serving commercial flights: Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, City and Southend. These airports handle millions of passengers annually and offer a wide range of domestic and international connections.
Heathrow Airport
Heathrow, opened in 1946, is one of the busiest airports globally. It has five terminals, serving hundreds of airlines and offering numerous flights, amenities and connections, including direct flights to Australia and New Zealand (but not directly to Dunedin). It’s a major international hub.
Gatwick Airport
Gatwick, opened in 1929, serves as a major international airport for London. It has two terminals and handles a significant amount of passengers and flights daily. While it offers a wide network of international flights, it may not have the same volume of connections to the South Pacific as Heathrow.
Luton Airport
Luton, opened in 1938, is another significant London airport. With a modern terminal it's popular amongst budget airlines. Luton has many domestic flights and a growing number of international flights. However, its connectivity to Dunedin is less likely than at Heathrow or Gatwick.
